"an end to speeding tickets" 2010-04-03

By J. Tyson (Baltimore MD)

My first long trip using the Whistler certainly saved me 2 tickets. The radar detector alerted me that the officer had locked-on to my car and I was able to reduce speed quickly and shortly after, on my return journey the Whistler alerted me that there was a cruiser hiding behind a wall with radar locked on to me. I am by no means a speed freak but I have a habit of driving slightly above the limit and recommend this product to save points on the license.

 "No better than eyes" 2010-02-05

By Mornington (Georgetown, SC)

This detector has many cool features, and gives the initial impression that it is a hi-tech wonder. Unfortunately, the range is so limited that I have yet to hear the warning siren before I can see the cop! It seems to have a range of about four or five hundred yards, which is pitiful. My son's Beltronics 940 is far superior.

 "So-So" 2010-02-01

By Travis B. Bundtzen (Anchorage, AK USA)

This product is equivalent to the $100 items you would buy at a local department store. Has saved me from atleast two speeding tickets in the first month of ownership. The range is short to medium at best. The charge does not last more than 8 hours tops. I really like the fact that it is cordless which is one of the reasons I purchased this. I get a fair amount of false positives which is annoying. All in all I would go with something else.

 "Great Product!!" 2010-01-31

By R. Ginther (Kansas City, Mo.)

This new whistler is great!!! The fact that it is cordless makes it universal from car to motorcycle. It's charger works very well when plugged in to a power point for a short time. The XTR-540 lasts a whole week on one charge on my work commute, (approx 12 hours). Since my commute is 45 minutes to and from work, the battery saver set to 1 hour works well for me.

On the other side, this unit will detect radar alot further than the eye can see, if it alarms, you better believe it.

Buy it!!! for the money, it's the best on the market. It's better than my last $400.00 Escort that was stolen.

 "XTR-540 Review" 2009-12-26

By D. Faulkner

Overall I am very pleased with this radar detector. The one inconvenience is with the digital compass. When you mount the detector in a different vehicle or even in a different place on your car's windshield you have to recalibrate the compass. It's very easy to do, but a little annoying....you have to drive in two complete circles.

 "good buy" 2010-03-15

By D. Jolley (Denver, CO)

I bought the Whistler PRO-78 SE based on reviews and am not disappointed. Like anything else, a radar detector has limitations but I'm happy I bought this unit and at the best price on the web.

"Way too many false alarms" 2010-03-07

By Michael J. Veltri (Pittsburgh, Pa)

This product goes off all the time. I have it set to the lowest setting and it still goes off for no reason. When it does go off it has multiple alarms. With so many alarms, you can't trust if it is true or not.

 "Bang for the buck!" 2010-03-06

By Smart Shopper (Naperville, Il)

This is the best radar detector for the money. It's not pricey and not cheap; it's just right; especially for the price I bought it for. I drove an eight hour drive from Illinois to Missouri and as long as the highway patrol and police had their radars on, it picked it up in plenty of time for me to slow down; I never got a ticket. There was one cop sitting at the top of the hill, so it was impossible for any detector to pick the radar up on time, but once I got to the top of the hill, it went off like a madman! Luckily everyone around me was speeding, so I didn't get pulled over; when in doubt, always slow down when approaching the top of a hill. The cops know you're using one, so they do all they can to hide from you. Plus, always make sure you have cars in front of you, so when the cop radars them, your detector will pick it up. Most of the cops used K band, which was surprising; most use Ka band. When a real Ka band detector was detected, the Whistler notified you by indicating the frequency; when this display comes up, it's always been a cop. Buy this one; it has a really nice blue LED display and I was able to see it in any angle sunlight. the periscopes were helpful and false alerts were filtered correctly depending on the settings you use. I read the instructions carefully on the Whistler website, so I know which ones were false. Excellent product!!! I really wanted the 695 pro SE, but I noticed the LCD display was difficult to read in bright sunlight. I really wanted to get it because of the different color LCD display selection. The PRO 78 SE has the same guts, but no LCD display. The blue LED display is very nice and displayed nicely with the blue parts of the dashboard display in my 2008 Infiniti G35S.

 "Disappointed With SE" 2010-02-19

By S. Mccormick (Nashville TN)

I have used radar detectors for years and currently have a Bel 925 and Whistler 690 in my other vehicles. The 690 works great and seems to exceed the performance of the Bel, longer warning range and less falsing, so after hearing about the SE versions of the Whistler products with improved Ka performance I had to have one. The first one I received was defective and would indicated K band for 10 minutes upon startup. After sending it back to Whistler and waiting four weeks, they finally sent me a new one. The Pro 78 SE gets a lot of two chirp false alerts even with Pop off and in City Mode. I went by police Ka band radar twice today and it did not pick it up until I was right on the police car -- very disappointing.

 "Love it!" 2010-02-17

By M. Heiser

Works great! Had to turn off "pop mode" due to too many false positives. The false positive rate is rather high where I live (Myrtle Beach, SC); but I love how it identifies the actual frequency, i.e., "X Band - 37.4". When it ID's the actual frequency (not just the band), I know for certain that it's an accurate warning.
