Alpina BMW D3 Bi-Turbo Coupe

The new Diesel Bi-Turbo continues the Alpina BMW D3 success story begun in 2006 by the popular 200 HP (147 kW) Alpina sport-diesel model, with over 850 units sold since its inception. It is a most passable answer to the low emissions and consumption discussions of current times, and dovetails perfectly with of out-of-hand fuel prices.

The designation "D" unmistakably indicates the diesel powerplants in the Alpina family. "D" especially stands for dynamism. The new D3 Bi-Turbo, celebrating its world debut at the 2008 GENEVA Salon d'Automobile - with 214 HP/211 bhp (157 kW) @ 4,100 rpm - is an exceptionally powerful and unusually high-revving diesel. Lastly, the "D" on the Alpina BMW D3 Bi-Turbo stands for the German "Drehmoment" or torque, which the D3 has in spades. At 450 Nm (332 lbs-ft) of torque from 2,000 to 2,500 rpm, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder D3 is operating in V8 engine territory, or amongst large-displacement six-cylinder diesel engines. With the purchase of a D3 Bi-Turbo, an Alpina customer owns an engine transmission combination that is a rare and fine delicacy when measured against its diesel competitors.

The elegant manner in which the power is delivered can be further augmented with the optional SWITCH-TRONIC automatic transmission. Developed by ZF and Alpina in partnership, this sport-automatic is operated via three driving modes: D, S and M. Depending on the driver's mood, he or she may let the transmission shift automatically, or shift manually using buttons on the back of the steering wheel. This affords the broadest spectrum of driving fascination.

The D3 Diesel Technology

The D3 Bi-Turbo's basis is derived from the BMW 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-charged diesel engine with a block entirely of aluminium. The highpressure, 2000 bar Bosch-Common Rail system ensures high efficiency by means of utilising Piezo injectors. Two differently-sized exhaust-driven turbo-chargers breathe on the D3 Bi-Turbo. The smaller of the two chargers begins to operate right from tick-over and helps the four-cylinder yield an impressive 400 Nm (295 lbs-ft) of torque at a mere 1,500 rpm. Peak torque of 450 Nm ( 332 lbs-ft) is reached at 2,000 rpm. From about 3,000 rpm onward, the second, larger turbo-charger, is then fully on line and drives the engine to its peak performance of 214 horsepower (211 bhp, 157 kW). Thanks to extensive development work, optimal turbo-charger mapping and the fuel injection system, the new D3 Bi-Turbo allows revs up to 5,200 rpm, where most diesel aggregates today stop at 4,500 rpm. The base engine's configuration, as developed by BMW engineers in Steyr, provides the potential to make the Alpina BMW D3 Bi-Turbo's immensely high specific output of 107 horsepower per litre possible.

The Efficient Transfer of Power

The standard six-speed manual gearbox allows the driver to not only test the 5,200 rpm redline, but also to enjoy the driving experience in a way previously unknown to a diesel. Coupled with carefully-calibrated gear spacing, the broad useable torque curve makes possible an unusually lightfooted form of forward progress, especially on winding country lanes.

At the request of many customers, one can now enjoy the D3 Bi-Turbo with the optional SWITCH-TRONIC. This classic combination of plenty of torque and an automatic transmission, offers the driver a high degree of flexibility.

Using the normal "D" Drive mode, the SWITCH-TRONIC shifts into the next gear most comfortably and almost unnoticed by the driver. "D" mode uses the engine's impressive torque, allowing a driving style that's very economical. In "S" mode, the up-shifts are later in the rev range, and quicker. This provides for the kind of driving characteristics that to date were only to be found in strong petrol engines.

The D3 Bi-Turbo only really becomes the perfect "Sport Diesel" though, when the driver shifts manually using the shift buttons on the back of the steering wheel. Lightning-quick shifts are the order of the day - even the best drivers can't shift any quicker than themselves. This reveals itself in impressive performance numbers for both transmissions The manual D3 Coupé reaches 100 km/h [62 mph] in 6.9 seconds (automatic 7.0 sec), with a top speed of 244 km/h [152 mph].

Especially in light of the current CO2 discourse, the Alpina BMW D3 Bi-Turbo Coupe's fuel economy figures for the EU combined cycle of 5,4 (5,6) l/100 km [52.3 Imp. gal (50.4)] and resultant CO2 emissions of only 143 (148) g/km, reveal Alpina's efforts regarding highest fuel efficiency. In addition, all measures to reduce consumption and CO2 emissions used in the base BMW model were carried over into the D3, such as the automatic Start-Stop function on models with manual transmissions. High-mileage drivers and business users appreciate the resulting range: depending on driving style, up to 1,000 km (600 miles) are the norm.

Alpina Suspension, Tyres & Wheels

The Alpina BMW D3 Bi-Turbo Coupe uses suspension technology quite similar to the Alpina BMW B3 Bi-Turbo, an automobile whose suspension and chassis set-up has received rave reviews from the press. The BMW 3-Series Coupe's high chassis rigidity and five-arm rear suspension provided Alpina great potential for the highest levels of driving dynamics. The strut/spring calibration is fittingly sporty, matching the D3's character. Thanks to the low kerb weight, extraordinarily agile handling has been achieved, exhibiting itself in the form of excellent handling, all the way to the limit.

The standard tyres and weight-optimised 18" Alpina CLASSIC light-alloy wheels can be up-graded with an optional 19" wheel/tyre combination, available in either Alpina CLASSIC or DYNAMIC wheel design. The interplay of 245/40 ZR18 front tyres and 265/40 ZR18 rear tyres, riding on 8x18" front and 9x18" rear wheels, yields outstandingly exact handling. The key is Alpina's choice not to use the heavy Run-Flat tyre technology, for reasons of weight and comfort.

In Conclusion

Alpina typical interior and exterior design cues demonstrate the Alpin BMW D3 Bi-Turbo Coupe's individuality and elegance. Attractive light-alloy wheels, an instrument cluster with blue dials, and a leather sports steering wheel with Alpina emblem and multi-functionality (automatic tranmission) are standard on the D3 Bi-Turbo. The front spoiler minimises lift and underscores the Coupé's aesthetic lines, which can be augmented further with an optional rear spoiler.

Initially offered as a Coupé, the D3 will also be available as a Saloon and Touring in Autumn 2008. With the advent of the new-generation D3, Alpina furthers the previous model's success.

Alpina BMW B3 Bi-Turbo

THE NEW BMW ALPINA B3 BITURBO - IMPRESSIVE GRACE, POWER AND THRIFT

In ALPINA's more than 40-year history of manufacturing automobiles, turbo-charged engines have consistently set enduring accents. Launched in 1989, the BMW ALPINA B10 Bi-Turbo is just one example of the cult status some of these automobiles achieved. In fact, ALPINA's turbo-charging history began in 1978, based on the 5 Series and 6 Series of the day (E12 & E28 and E24). The new BMW ALPINA B3 Bi-Turbo continues this tradition for the first time on the basis of the BMW 3 Series with its world premiere at the 2007 Geneva Salon d'Automobile.

The heart of the B3 Bi-Turbo offers 265 kW (360 hp) at 5,500 - 6,000 revolutions per minute, as well as maximum torque of 500 Nm from 3,800 - 5,000 rpm. The B3 Bi-Turbo's engine has a sporty engine's willingness to rev to 7,000 rpm. Equally as present but usually reserved for diesel engines, there is vigorous torque from 1,500 rpm onwards. The result: a powerband broader than ever before experienced, guaranteeing both sporty and bullish driving dynamics.

Technically, this is all made possible due to the exceptional BMW base engine with injectors centrally located over the pistons - the state-of-the-art in direct injection technology. For more than a year, ALPINA engineers researched, developed and tested, both on the engine test bench and on the road. Ever refining the ALPINA engine map to leverage all the advantages offered by modern direct injection, the potential inherent in the BMW foundation was maximised. The use of extremely durable MAHLE pistons allows for a maximum boost of 1.1 bar with a 9.4:1 compression ratio. The result, peak specific values of 89 kW (121 hp) per litre and a maximum average pressure of 21 bar.

The allure of the new BMW ALPINA B3 Bi-Turbo is found in its V8 like performance, but with the advantages of a much lighter and noticeably thriftier 3.0-litre straight-six, a six with an aluminium block and twin-turbo charging. The smooth-running nature inherent in this engine concept is even more prominent when the engine is charged.

The BMW ALPINA B3 Bi-Turbo embodies pure driving enjoyment - whether cruising along or enjoying all 7,000 revs in each gear. The reason for the spontaneous responsiveness of the B3 Bi-Turbo is the ZF 6-speed sport automatic transmission with its very short shift sequences, which smoothly processes the power through the drivetrain without any uncomfortable interruption of forward momentum. The driver may also choose to shift manually at the wheel using SWITCH-TRONIC, which contributes in no small part to both the awe-inspiring performance numbers and the ability to save fuel in top gear. Frugality and driving excitement are therefore not contradictory in the B3 Bi-Turbo. Driven by high torque means using sixth gear on the Autobahn is more than sufficient in almost all situations.

The engine's kick surprises even those in the know: 0-100 km/h in 4,9 seconds and thrust-like acceleration that keeps pulling all the way up to a top speed of 285 km/h. Indulgence without remorse: in spite of its stellar performance, the new BMW ALPINA B3 Bi-Turbo achieves excellent fuel economy in relation to its competitors. One of the B3 Bi-Turbo's features that literally stands out are the four exhaust tips, with their catalytic converters contributing significantly to the achieving of low Euro4 emissions standards.

The intense driving experience and an immediate bonding with the B3 Bi-Turbo are markedly influenced by fine materials and superior ergonomics. The standard leather interior features comfortably-padded sport seats with excellent lateral support, making long journeys a joy. The ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC steering wheel falls perfectly to hand and affords a clear view of the typical ALPINA blue instruments with their red pointers. As demanded by any enthusiastic driver, the provision of essential information in the form of the analogue oil temperature gauge located below the rev counter means the B3 Bi-Turbo can be pushed to its limits, once the minimum oil temperature of 50° C has been reached. Next to the analogue speedometer, the B3 Bi-Turbo also provides a digital speed read-out as well as average fuel economy and instantaneous fuel economy figures - thrifty driving also creates driving pleasure.

Immediately noticeable is the B3 Bi-Turbo's light-footed, extremely agile handling. The secret lies in an ideal 50/50 weight balance between front and rear axles in combination with a ALPINA's neutral and supple suspension. Augmenting this agility are light-weight 18" ALPINA CLASSIC wheels shod with conventional MICHELIN tyres, 225/40 ZR18 front and 255/35 ZR18 rear, with a conscious choice having been made not to use heavy Run-Flat tyres. 19" wheels offer an even higher level of potential lateral acceleration - in either DYNAMIC or CLASSIC design.

ALPINA's newest creation reduces aerodynamic lift, especially approaching top speed. The greatest contributors are the optimised front and rear aerodynamics, helping guarantee true driving safety, not just creating a feeling of safety.

In quite exclusive fashion, we'll complete but a few hundred B3 Bi-Turbos in Buchloe per annum for automotive connoisseurs. As tradition holds, each automobile will be fitted with an ALPINA plaque identifying its unique production number.

The new BMW ALPINA B3 Bi-Turbo - revel in its unique driving experience infused with impressive grace, power and thrift.

Alpina BMW D3

The BMW ALPINA D3 - the small, sporty diesel from ALPINA

"It has phenomenal pull," was the first impression that Andreas Bovensiepen had of the BMW 320d race-diesel that he raced along with Hans Stuck, Marc Duez and Christian Menzel. Together they took the overall win in none other than the 1998 24 Hours of Nurburgring, the track whose North Loop was and is referred to as the "Green Hell". This remains the biggest racing victory for a diesel-fired vehicle to date, with thanks going to an intelligent package made up of high torque, high fuel economy and finely-honed aerodynamics

An automobile from ALPINA - and cognoscenti know it - is always something special. Packaging is the magic word - to present a car that the informed, sporty and quite emotional ALPINA clientele will appreciate

At the heart of the matter is the 2.0litre diesel, endowed with so much potential by the BMW engineers in Steyr that it achieves just over 100 horsepower per litre in the BMW ALPINA D3. This would be a great result for a high-performance petrol engine, and it's a sensation coming from a diesel. Garrett, of turbo-charger fame, are able to deliver a new charger that simultaneously achieves high levels of air mass through-put with outstanding responsiveness. ALPINA engineers performed intensive development work on the injection system, burn pattern, inter-cooling and exhaust gas emissions (particle filter). The result: 200hp (147kW) at 4,000rpm

What makes this automobile special? First off - it works brilliantly in times of out-of-hand fuel prices. Torque: at 410Nm/302lbs-ft much like a V8 engine. Performance: 0-100kph in 7.4 seconds, with a top speed of 238kph, much like a six-cylinder. Fuel economy: at 6-7 litres per 100km, more like a small commuter car. A truly dynamic automobile that doesn't first create false hopes by shooting away from rest at low revs, only to peter out at higher revs. Instead, the 2.0litre loves to rev, in the hopes that its owner will co-operate fully and happily with both it and the buttery-smooth-shifting 6-speed ZF manual gearbox

When served in this manner - thanks to the enervating drivetrain - an unsuspected level of driving pleasure reveals itself from the first kilometre on. Precise, direct steering allow driver and automobile to bond, rhythmically swinging from one corner to the next. Upon reaching 100kph on the autobahn, all that needs be done is to select sixth gear, and the driver surfs on a 410Nm wave of torque, constant from 2,000rpm to 3,300rpm. It feels relaxed, even easy, and one has the sense that it's really a muscle car. Far from it, as the distance-to-empty gauge smirkingly tells the story of 800 - 1,000km to go. Heavy mileage drivers know they'll have the upper hand against every sports car

ALPINA doesn't just stand for fun, but also for a clear conscience - which brings us to the topic of particulates. We assure you that you'll still be able to go shopping into the city with each and every new D3, as the D3 has a diesel particulate filter standard. That said, not even Germany's Energy Minister, Juergen Trittin, can say anything bad about this sporty car

Light-footed, exceptionally agile handling is immediately noticeable, with an agility not previously found in diesel vehicles. The secret is the ideal, 50%/50% front/rear weight bias, along with a suspension committed to soaking up bumps and providing Swiss levels of neutrality at the limit. The light, MICHELIN-shod 18" ALPINA CLASSIC wheels demand this agility, with of 225/40 ZR18 dimension front and 255/35 ZR18 rear. In configuring state-of-the-art MICHELIN tyres, we purposely chose conventional tyres over the much heavier Run-Flats. Optional 19" wheel/tyre packages, in CLASSIC or DYNAMIC design, provide the highest levels of lateral acceleration

Quite dynamic and yet elegant in appearance is ALPINA's little one, the D3, with a nod to the wind-tunnel-optimised aerodynamic work done at the front and the rear.

The best for last: the BMW ALPINA D3 has a highly attractive base price, a down-right steal, and thereby effectively removing price as a hurdle for clients new to ALPINA

Alpina BMW B7

THE BMW ALPINA B7

The BMW 760i - with its 12 cylinders - is unquestionably one of the finest and most comfortable saloons in the luxury segment

There is, however, a small circle of enthusiasts, people who enjoy getting behind the wheel themselves, who yearn for the sportiness provided in a smaller car, but don't want to miss out on an automobile in this class. To achieve optimum agility and handling, ALPINA made a point of basing the B7 on the BMW 7 Series with V8 engine. The V8 offers the best jumping-off point in terms of dynamism, with an ideal 50/50 weight balance, also weighing around 150 kg less than the comparable V12 model

The B7 designation carries with it a long tradition, and has stood for charged engines at ALPINA since the late 1970s. The heart of the B7 is a 4.4 litre V8 engine that is charged through the use of a radial (Nautilus-type) compressor. The combination of Valvetronic and charging represents a premiere. Through the use of Valvetronic's complete functionality, the charge is controlled by varying the valve opening depth and the boost pressure. This frees up the engine breathing and provides better fuel economy at partial engine loads. The radial compressor is driven by a dedicated poly-V-belt, separate from the serpentine belts running the other aggregates. At low rpm, a clutch de-couples the compressor from its drive-belt. The compressed air charge reaches the engine via an air-to-air intercooler. The EMITEC metallic catalytic converters are mounted quite close to the engine. In combination with secondary air induction, the EU4 standard is achieved

This charging helps the ALPINA engine generate impressive performance figures: 368 kW (500 bhp) at 5.500 rpm, with a maximum torque of 700 Nm at 4.250 rpm. The result is excellent performance coupled with a saloon's unique comfort. The feeling of jet-engine acceleration reaches heights of around 300 kph, with 100 kph flashing by in 4.9 seconds

The silhouette of the B7 is markedly more dynamic and graceful through the 21" ALPINA wheels and the rising wedge shape at the rear of the automobile, finishing harmoniously in a rear deck spoiler. With the help of the newly re-shaped ALPINA front valance and spoiler, the B7 achieves a coefficient of drag of only 0.31 in the BMW wind tunnel, helping to ensure stability at the highest speeds

This sporty elegance carries through to the interior. Directly in the driver's field of vision are large circular instruments finished in traditional ALPINA blue with red pointers. A warm ambience is communicated by the top-quality ALPINA luxury wood 'myrtle' in combination with the finest leather. The B7 may be precisely guided using the new ALPINA three-spoke sport steering wheel (385 mm diameter) finished in attractive-to-the-touch LAVALINA leather. SWITCH-TRONIC shift buttons are ergonomically integrated on the reverse side of the steering wheel

An agile-shifting ZF 6-speed automatic augments the B7's already sporty nature. In Drive, it provides the ability to glide along comfortably and effortlessly. In SWITCH-TRONIC, sporty driving is right at one's fingertips, especially when shifting manually using the buttons at the wheel, much like in Formula 1

The precise steering of the lowered B7, and its neutral handling, allow one to forget the size of this automobile. A large, dynamic saloon, it offers supreme driving pleasure on twisty secondary roads due to its light-footed nature, as well as superior power for the autobahn. The wheel and tyre combination delivers excellent road-holding, with MICHELIN Pilot tyres (245/35 ZR21 front and 285/30 ZR21 rear). And in combination with generously-dimensioned brakes (374 mm front and 370 mm rear), phenomenal braking capability

As with every BMW ALPINA, there's an exclusive, sequentially-numbered production plaque

Alpina BMW B6 Cabrio

THE BMW ALPINA B6 CABRIO

Luxurious performance cabriolets are no longer simply the domain of bespoke British and Italian handiwork. ALPINA present the B6 Cabrio - a viable alternative -combining performance and luxury with a high degree of everyday usability500 horsepower, 700 Nm - absurd in an open-topped sports car? Far from it. The V8's beguiling sound and opulent torque entice the driver to glide along in a relaxed fashion, any and all red-line orgies far afield, much like cruising on a Harley Davidson. This provides the time to drink in the top-down melànge of breezes, scents and sounds. Leather, wood and matchless ergonomics caress the inhabitants, immediately creating a sense of comfort and well-being

The acceleration suggests a super-sports car: 100 kph from a standing start is reached in 4.9 seconds, with speeds in excess of 300kph less than a minute away - the only short interruptions undertaken by the 6-speed ZF automatic's smooth upshifts. This noble Gran Tourismo is just as good at communicating the sound of its sonorous V8 directly into the cockpit, whether top down, or with just the rear windscreen lowered

Driving a BMW ALPINA is an adventure in intense comfort, yet we don't define comfort as the absence of any feedback through the chassis, as many would have it. Comfort defines itself to us in a completely different manner. The steering needs to be exact, but light on its feet at the same time. The seats need to be firm, with good lateral support. Dampers and springs must nip languid suspension swells in the bud. The tyres will accept great cornering, braking and acceleration forces, without sidewalls that are too stiff and without being too heavy in general. For these reasons, we at ALPINA simply don't like Run-Flat tyres

The staggered tyres, as always from MICHELIN, are generously dimensioned: 255/35 ZR20 front and 285/30 ZR20 rear, and mounted on large 20" ALPINA DYNAMIC wheels. In spite of the low aspect ratios, a special tyre configuration makes them capable of high levels of comfort, this coupled with handling that turns every long drive into a joy ride. For those who are lovers of the 20-spoke design on ALPINA's CLASSIC wheel, there is the optional 19" wheel and tyre package

Light retouching of the Cabrio's front and rear lend a sense of sophistication. Harmoniously integrated into the rear diffuser, the four exhaust pipes are at once elegant and powerful.

We're sure that we've assembled everything in an orderly fashion on the BMW ALPINA B6, with "everything" really defined as driving pleasure - and those who enjoy themselves live happily, no?

A bit of patience is in order, those who order now can chase the sun early next Summer

Alpina BMW B5

THE BMW ALPINA B5

ALPINA presented the BMW ALPINA B5 at the Geneva Salon in march 2005, an automobile with 500 horsepower, maximum torque of 700 Newton metres and a top speed of 314km/h - the fastest production saloon in the world. Yet power isn't the sole defining characteristic of even this BMW ALPINA, an automobile which enriches Buchloe's gourmet offering in both Touring and Saloon form

In the end, the key isn't absolute horsepower, but the manner in which this performance unfolds. In this point, the youngest member of the ALPINA family takes a position at the head of the class - just as its predecessors in ALPINA history. The legendary B10 Bi-Turbo, for example, is a car that enjoys cult status today

In principle, the B5 uses the same powerplant found in the familiar BMW ALPINA B7, with its eight cylinders and 4.4 litre displacement. The engine's forced induction differs from conventional solutions: it is neither turbo, nor of the type of super-chargers that drain a great deal of power from an engine, especially at higher rpm

A radial or "Nautilus-type" compressor delivers the ALPINA V8's boost pressure: one might see it as a combination of super-charger and turbo-charger. It isn't propelled by exhaust gases, as a turbo would be, but rather belt-driven from the crankshaft. The inner workings of the radial compressor compare to the intake side of a turbo: a small turbine generates up to 0.8 atmospheres of boost to the cylinders. Before reaching the engine, the air passes through a generously-dimensioned inter-cooler, capable of sinking intake air temperature up to 70°C

The advantages of this innovative technical solution? The radial compressor never stops spinning, with no time lag when power is demanded. Under the types of low to partial loads found in everyday driving, the engine operates as if it were normally aspirated, using the full functionality of Valvetronic (variable valve lift). This is the deciding factor in creating advantageous fuel economy. The compressor is controlled through the use of an "upstream" throttle plate in the intake system - a development unique to ALPINA, and one that makes the charging of the Valvetronic V8, without the use of a common throttle body, even possible

When looking at the horsepower curve, it's clear what one may expect from this engine-bay-filling, complex technology. At a modest 2,500rpm one has 200 horsepower with which to play. At 5,500 rpm the maximum 500 horsepower are reached, but the fun doesn't stop there: the engine maintains 500 horsepower up to maximum revs of 6,000rpm. A very wide power band, therefore, across which the B5 provides immediate, optimum power

The torque curve is even more impressive. The curve takes on the form of a massive table mountain. At a mere 1,000rpm, just above idle, the V8 puts out 300 Newton metres of torque. Between 4,250rpm and 5,250, there's a constant 700 Newton metres of twist on tap

The engine characteristics, as evidenced by the above numbers, are those a of far larger, naturally-aspirated engine. The B5's powerplant distinguishes itself by instantaneous reactions to throttle inputs, care-free revving up to maximum revs, and a nearly inexhaustible supply of acceleration across the rev range. At fullsong, the BMW ALPINA B5 needs but 4.7 seconds to reach 100km/h (Touring: 4.8 seconds), placing it in the fine company of the world's most renownedsports cars

Taking advantage of the enormous power requires no high driving art. Stepping on the pedal is enough, as the BMW ALPINA B5 possesses a ZF six-speed automatic transmission with torque converter, known for its especially smooth shifts and quick response

The driver may operate the transmission in Drive mode, letting the automatic do the shifting, or may manually select the gear desired. ALPINA developed SWITCH-TRONIC many years ago for just this purpose. Two buttons on the back side of the steering wheel make removing one's hands from the wheel when shifting redundant. The right button shifts up, the left button down - enriching the driving experience, and difficult to describe in words

While manual mode is ideal for driving assertively through a series of bends, or on winding roads, it can also help conserve fuel. One may simply command the transmission to remain in gears higher than what the electronic transmission control would select at a given speed. The result: extremely low revs, lower fuel consumption - and even when driving in a such a gentle manner, no one will ever need complain about a lack of torque

When reviewing deceleration times from 200km/h, the B5's documents its braking capability in imposing manner: less than 5.5 seconds to a full stop. Drawing upon the B7's braking system, special attention is again placed on comfort under braking. For this reason, the brake discs of 374/36mm front and 370/24mm rear dimension are not cross-drilled. Wet braking performance is enhanced in spite of this by the use of a so-called "brake-drying" function. From time to time, without the driver ever feeling it, the brake pads are automatically and lightly dragged across the rotors, removing any layer of water - and this only when the wipers are active. Along with TEVES' two-piston, floating brake callipers, extremely strong deceleration and the best possible reliability are guaranteed

In the wind tunnel, extensive aerodynamic development, testing and attention to detail are the prerequisites for an automobile's safe driving characteristics - even at speeds exceeding 300km/h. The results are convincing: front and rear lift values are minimal, thanks to the ALPINA aerodynamics package. And despite the sizeable wheel/tyre combination, an exceptional 0.29 coefficient of drag has been achieved

By coupling the B5's extremely powerful engine with the comfort of an automatic, ALPINA place the Saloon and Touring in a unique position in the high-performance segment. This superior performance brilliantly complements a suspension that is itself an amalgam of sporty handling precision and comfort that is anything but matter-of-fact in high-performance automobiles. The inter-play of struts and springs, together with the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 2 tyres (front, 245/40 ZR 19; rear 275/35 ZR 19), communicate a distinct sense of safety to the driver at every speed, all while simultaneously fulfilling the comfort demands placed on today's luxury automobile. All very much in the tradition of the house of ALPINA - a concept honed to perfection through attention to detail

This is also true of the extensive standard equipment, with only a few additional-cost extras. Traditional ALPINA high-quality wood and hand-stitched leather interiors, in typical ALPINA Identity, communicate a warm ambience

The BMW ALPINA B5 is a synthesis of uppermost performance and cultured driving behaviour

Powertrain

The innovation built into the new Acura RL begins with the most powerful engine ever offered in an Acura sedan. An all-new 3.7-liter V-6 engine develops 300 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque thanks to an innovative new VTEC™ valvetrain system for both the intake and exhaust valves, a higher compression ratio, along with a special dual-stage magnesium intake manifold that enables the intake to function as a single- or dual-plenum manifold design based on engine operating parameters. In addition to developing improved power and torque, the Acura RL engine meets tough CARB ULEV-2 emission standards and delivers good fuel economy. The RL's engine bay appears more upscale thanks to a new surround panel assembly that reduces visual distractions and focuses attention directly on the all-new 3.7-liter V-6 engine.

To handle the higher power of the 3.7-liter engine, a new version of the Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic transmission is fitted to the 2009 Acura RL. Featuring new "smart" F1®-style steering wheel mounted paddle shifters and a new straight-gate
console mounted gear selector, the Acura RL driver now has more gear control than ever before.

The RL's acclaimed Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD™) system returns for 2009, but is now quicker responding and better performing.

There are numerous traction advantages of all-wheel drive, yet SH-AWD™ does a key function that is not available with traditional AWD systems - SH-AWD™ utilizes torque vectoring to increase the rotation speed of an outside rear wheel during aggressive cornering to help the car turn more effectively while under power. This "yaw" function reduces the cornering load on the front tires to minimize understeer, to improve handling balance, and to escalate total cornering grip.

Body and Chassis

To further enhance handling and ride comfort, the new Acura RL retains a fully independent suspension system with front double-wishbone and rear multi-link architecture. For 2009 the Acura RL features higher rate coil springs, larger diameter stabilizer bars, stiffer subframe mount bushings and improved design steering rack components. To further improve handling and looks, new 18-inch diameter 7-spoke aluminum wheels are matched with more aggressive tires (replacing the previous 17-inch wheel/tire offering).

Exterior/Interior

The 2009 Acura RL's new exterior styling is not only more aggressive, but delivers excellent aerodynamics and reduced rear lift at higher speeds. The Acura RL's more athletic style foreshadows the power concealed by the new power plenum front grille and blow-formed aluminum hood. The RL's shape is taut and athletic, and its acceleration and cornering performance allow it to challenge the most capable German and Japanese sports sedans. Comfort, quietness and ride quality are also on a par with performance sedan competitors. For 2009, eight exterior colors are available - 5 of which are new - including a new pearl pigment process that improves luster and shine.

Inside, the 2009 Acura RL features a more elegantly styled interior that includes more room for rear seat passengers, easier-to-use front seat belts, door-mounted pull pockets, softer arm rests, redesigned vents, larger/clearer lettering for HVAC controls, and easier actuation of climate control functions. A revised steering wheel with available genuine wood trim (included with the CMBS package) and metal-look accents is now fitted to the Acura RL along with a matching wood-trimmed transmission shift knob. Complementing the steering wheel are upgraded gauges that incorporate brushed metal accents for enhanced appearance. For 2009, additional insulation, a more high-tech design of Acura's acoustic glass windshield, and a new Active Sound Control (ASC) noise abatement system team to further reduce the Acura RL's already quiet cabin.

The RL's perforated leather front seats now incorporate six levels of heated/cooled ventilation. Moreover, just like the driver's seat, the passenger front seat now has 10-way power adjustability. For 2009, the center panel controls are now more intuitive and are surrounded by a new background color along with improved quality wood patterned panels. These interior upgrades are complimented by advanced electronics that include a satellite-linked Acura Navigation System with Voice Activation™ along with the innovative AcuraLink® satellite communication system with Real-time traffic, AcuraLink® Traffic Rerouting™ and (new for 2009) AcuraLink® weather. The Acura RL is the first vehicle on the market to feature in-dash integrated, continually updated real-time weather information in a single-screen format. The spectacular Acura/Bose® 10-speaker Sound System with DVD-Audio returns but is now upgraded to include Bluetooth® Audio, even richer audio sound, a new Note function for XM® Radio, improved button legibility, and a USB connectivity port.

Safety

The 2009 Acura RL retains Acura's extremely rigid Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure that features extensive use of high-tensile steel and lightweight aluminum components to take vehicle construction beyond conventional safety protocols while keeping overall vehicle weight in check. The ACE™ structure's front-mounted polygonal main frame is designed to help prevent cabin deformation by distributing frontal impact forces through multiple load bearing pathways--and away from the passenger compartment. For 2009, to enhance safety a new Active Head Restraint System is built into the front seats to help improve neck and head protection in the event in a rear impact collision. To further aid in safety, the Acura RL includes as standard a passenger seatbelt reminder, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and six airbags. These advances team to make the 2009 Acura RL the strongest, most powerful, best handling, safest and most luxurious sedan Acura has ever built.

The Acura RL earned 5-star ratings (the best possible) for frontal and side crash tests, and for rollover resistance, from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The RL is the fourth vehicle in the history of the program to earn the top rating of "5-star" in all three test categories. Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program. In addition, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Acura RL its top rating of GOOD in Side Impact Collision Evaluation (SICE) along with a GOOD rating for IIHS' frontal offset crash test. With a new Active Head Restraint System for front seat passengers, the 2009 Acura RL is anticipated to receive a GOOD rating in IIHS rear crash protection evaluation.

Acura TSX

Acura TSX Sports Sedan Features Winning Blend of Performance, Style and Technology

The Acura TSX is one of the hottest luxury sedans on the road today, setting sales records month after month since its introduction and winning over enthusiasts customers and automotive press with its blend of outstanding performance, nimble handling and sporty styling. The TSX continues to distance itself from the competition by offering class-leading technology and the latest standard safety features, including a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) new for 2007 model year.

"The TSX has already clearly established itself as a beacon of consistency for the Acura brand," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "TSX's unique combination of performance, style and leading edge technology make for a uniquely Acura driving experience, and put it ahead of the competition."

The 2007 TSX is equipped with a 2.4 liter DOHC i-VTEC(TM) 4-cylinder engine, generating 205 horsepower and 164 lb-ft of torque*, giving the TSX engine overall performance comparable to many 6-cylinder powerplants. The i-VTEC "intelligent" valve-control system delivers enhanced performance across a broad power band, superior fuel economy and reduced exhaust emissions. A direct ignition system with knock control helps optimize power and fuel efficiency by ensuring a properly timed spark at all engine speeds.

The TSX engine is equipped with a drive-by-wire throttle control system that eliminates the need for a mechanical connection between the accelerator pedal and the engine, which continuously adjusts the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal to match current driving conditions. It also incorporates throttle control into the car's Vehicle Stability Assist(R) (VSA(R)) system, the vehicle's cruise control function and modulates the throttle to help make automatic transmission shifts even smoother.

Platinum-tipped spark plugs and a self-adjusting cam chain help the TSX run for 100,000 miles or more before requiring a major scheduled tune-up.

Since many performance enthusiasts prefer shifting gears, the TSX comes with either a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission or a compact 5-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission as standard equipment. The lightweight 6-speed gearbox features short shift throws and multi-cone synchronizers on all gears for quick, light shifting action. The transmission case is made from magnesium alloy, a material typically reserved for racing applications. This case weighs 6.6 pounds less than a comparable aluminum unit and is extremely rigid to damp out noise and vibration.

Along with its impressive 205 horsepower output, the TSX with manual transmission delivers 22 mpg city/30mpg highway, while the TSX with automatic transmission delivers 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway. Air-assisted fuel injectors, an underfloor catalyzer and a high-flow, low-heat mass exhaust manifold help the TSX achieve EPA Tier 2-Bin 5,Carb Low Emission Vehicle-2 (LEV-2) emissions status.

To complement its high-adrenaline powertrain with sports car-like handling, the TSX features an extremely rigid unit body structure and a race-bred, 4-wheel-independent double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension. The suspension is track-tuned to reduce lift, dive and body roll and boasts gas-pressurized shock absorbers and large front and rear stabilizer bars. A quick-ratio, variable power assist rack-and-pinion steering system provides outstanding feel and responsiveness and features an anti-kickback valve for reduced kickback on rough roads.

Handling is further enhanced by a Vehicle Stability Assist(R) (VSA(R)) that works in concert with the braking and drive-by-wire throttle systems to provide enhanced control during acceleration, braking and cornering. This 4-channel system also orchestrates the throttle and each of the vehicle's four disc brakes to seamlessly integrate traction control, anti-lock braking and stability enhancement for increased driver control. The electronically controlled Brake Assist feature helps the driver apply full brake pressure during accident avoidance situations.

To provide stability and offer superb stopping power, the TSX is equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes with 4-channel ABS, 17-inch alloy wheels and P215/50R17 Michelin all-season high-performance tires.

The body of the TSX offers crisp lines and dynamic curves. In front, styling cues include a signature 5-sided Acura grille, angular side markers and bumper-integrated fog lamps. In the rear, the taillights slope to meet a short, high trunk lid, which terminates sharply to help air separate cleanly off the back of the car at top speeds. Stylish nine-spoke alloy wheels finish the TSX's sporty appearance.

The TSX is available in nine exterior colors: Premium White Pearl, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Carbon Gray Pearl, Nighthawk Black Pearl, Artic Blue Pearl, Royal Blue Pearl, Glacier Blue Metallic, Deep Green Pearl, and Milano Red.

The five-passenger interior of the TSX is sporty yet refined with modern LED- illuminated instrumentation and intuitive controls. Like the RL and TL sedans, the TSX comes equipped with standard Bluetooth(R) enabled hands-free phone system. The system, called HandsFreeLink(TM), enables a Bluetooth(R) wireless interface with mobile phones allowing calls to be made and received using the TSX's voice recognition and audio interfaces. To make a call, drivers push the steering wheel-mounted HandsFreeLink(TM) button, which connects their phone to the system. The HandsFreeLink(TM) system can be programmed to accept up to six different phones and up to 50 numbers may be stored in the system's phone book.

The comprehensively equipped TSX features deeply bolstered, perforated leather seating surfaces, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power moonroof, power windows and door locks and keyless entry. The leather-wrapped three-spoke sport steering wheel provides a sporty feel, features wheel-mounted audio and cruise control as well as voice recognition and HandFreeLink switches.

The TSX comes equipped with a 360-watt Acura Premium Sound System with standard XM(R) Satellite Radio and an auxiliary jack located in the center console for playing MP3 and other digital music devices. The standard 8-way power adjustable driver's seat features two-position memory, so when the driver enters the car with the key fob, the TSX automatically adjusts the driver's seat to their preferred position. In addition, tilt and telescopic steering wheel allows the TSX to accommodate a wide range of drivers. A 4-way adjustable power passenger seat increases passenger comfort and convenience.

The only factory option (other than transmission choice) on the TSX is the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition (TM). This easy to use navigation system features a menu of 560 voice commands, an 8-inch display, and a comprehensive destination guide with over 7 million points of interest including the Zagat Survey(TM) Restaurant Guide, 3-D graphics for freeway interchanges including on and off-ramps and turn-by-turn voice guidance. In addition, 1.7 million U.S. cities and street names can be accessed through the voice recognition system. The navigation system can be controlled through the steering wheel-mounted voice recognition button or by using the menu on the touch screen.

To ensure proper maintenance intervals and reduce the number of service visits, the TSX features a Maintenance Minder system that automatically monitors the vehicle's unique operating profile and alerts the driver via the Multi-Information Display when certain types of routine service, including oil and filter replacement and tire rotation, are needed.

The TSX is also equipped with standard dual-stage, dual-threshold driver's and front passenger's airbags, and side airbags for the driver and front passenger. The passenger's side airbag uses seven sensors in the seatback and side bolster to determine the height and position of the occupant. If the sensors detect that a child or small-stature adult is leaning into the deployment path of the side airbag, the bag will not deploy.

To further enhance safety, side curtain airbags help protect vehicle occupants from head and neck injuries in the event of a significant side impact. Additionally, the 2007 TSX is now equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Like all Acura models, the TSX is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, and a 6-year / 70,000 mile powertrain limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service, and trip routing.

Acura TL Type-S

2007 Acura TL Type-S

Body

For 2007, the Acura TL's exterior has been updated to enhance its emotional and athletic impact. With the introduction of the Type-S, visual cues were incorporated to distinguish it from other TLs. All the updates were done while maintaining the high build quality, durability and resale value that Acura buyers expect.

The TL was designed to embody aggressiveness and power, agility and endurance. Designers began with the stance of the vehicle-how it looks and sits on its suspension. They worked towards a look of poise, with a promise of agility and power. The contrast of muscular tension and angular lines flows through the sheet metal, with its long wheelbase, short front and rear overhangs and wide track setting the tone.

The 2004 TL design team were, in part, influenced by "Bauhaus" styling themes. Founded in 1919, Bauhaus was the first and most famous German design house. Bauhaus set a template for European design with the now-famous maxim, "Form follows function." That classic design logic meshes well with already established Acura design philosophies.

With the updates for 2007, the style could more accurately be called "Bauhaus with attitude." Careful attention was paid to give the Type-S its own distinctive and even more aggressive look. Black chrome trim used around the car is an excellent example of the difference between the TL and the Type-S.

The design features and changes include:

Interior

The Acura tradition of interior prestige and tailored function continues with an elegant and sporty interior for the TL. The instruments and controls are arranged to create an intimate and functional driver's cockpit that offers a feeling of connection and control. With its higher belt line, the TL has a substantial look and feel. Fine interior materials such as leather trimmed seats and real metal trim combine with close attention to detail and finish to give the TL a tangible feeling of elegance. The large interior has stylish and highly supportive seating and generous front and rear headroom.

The long TL standard feature list includes items like the first North American application of a standard Sound System with 6-disc CD, DVD-Audio, DTS(R) and Dolby(R) Pro Logic(R) II audio system that takes advantage of the latest technology to deliver sound resolution that's 500 times higher than conventional CD audio. XM(R) Satellite radio is also on the standard equipment list, as is a new MP3 player jack in the center armrest storage bin. The standard Acura HandsFreeLink(TM) system lets the driver dial a Bluetooth(TM)enabled mobile phone by voice, while a new, higher-resolution Multi-Information Display (MID) shows mobile phone data, tracks the car's maintenance needs, displays warnings and offers an array of driver preference settings. The available Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition has a large 8-inch display with a new, redesigned interface and AcuraLink(TM) satellite communication system with Real-Time Traffic.

All TLs receive many updates to their interiors for the 2007 model year. Instrumentation, leather trim, accent trim and Active Noise Cancellation in the Type-S are all part of the driving experience of the 2007 TL.

Additionally, there are distinct styling differences between the TL and Type-S models. In addition to red ambient lighting (instead of the blue on TL models) the Type-S receives carbon fiber trim in place of wood, paddle shifters on automatic-equipped models, more highly bolstered front seats, stainless steel sport pedals, contrast stitching on the door panels, seats and steering wheel, and an available 6-speed manual transmission.

Styling

The TL interior has a dynamic and distinctive look, yet upholds the longstanding Acura tradition of highly functional driving environments. Given the sharp handling agility and power built into the TL, its interior echoes a clear sporting message. Fine details and rich surface finishes make it clear that the TL has not strayed from its luxury roots. Sweeping aluminum-alloy accents with a new pattern for 2007 wrap around the doors, flow onto the instrument panel and dive down the center console. Wood patterned accents warm the interior in the TL, while Type-S models have carbon fiber-look accents and contrast stitching on the door panels, seats and steering wheel, which creates an edgy look.

At night, the TL interior is transformed by new ambient lighting. The TL is bathed in a subtle blue light that coordinates with the instrumentation lighting, switchgear, and accent lighting, including the new footwell lighting. On the Type-S, red lighting replaces the blue, reinforcing its role as the enthusiast model.

Driver-Oriented Cockpit

The TL interior puts all important systems and controls within easy reach of the driver. The systems used most frequently-audio, cruise control, Acura HandsFreeLink(TM) and Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition(TM)-have satellite controls positioned on the new 3-spoke steering wheel, leather-wrapped on Type-S. The new instrumentation is backlit and easy to read, and the displays have an uncluttered look and intuitive operation. The Multi-Info Display has been redesigned with higher resolution for better readability. Helpful features make driving easier, like power rearview mirrors that can be set to automatically tilt-down when reverse is engaged to make parking simpler.

With a driver's 8-way power seat and a tilt/telescoping steering column, it's easy to get comfortable in the TL. The one-touch moonroof switch is located in the overhead console. The Sequential SportShift selector features an intuitive interface for ease of use. The short-throw, close ratio 6-speed manual gearbox falls naturally to hand, and the shift knob and console-mounted parking brake lever are covered in a new textured leather. There is also a bottom-hinged throttle pedal with a more linear feel and natural motion. The Type-S features sporty-looking stainless steel pedals and a new carbon fiber-look automatic transmission shift knob in addition to the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Safety

The 2007 TL and TL Type-S were developed to help protect its occupants with a comprehensive array of safety technologies, high-grade materials and advanced construction techniques.

Weight sensors are incorporated in the front passenger seat to determine the total weight on that seat. If it is less than 65 pounds (as if occupied by a small child or car seat) the front airbag will not deploy and a warning message appears on the instrument panel. For the driver, a position sensor in the seat determines how the airbag will be deployed in the event of a frontal collision. If the seat is close to its forwardmost position, the front airbag is designed to deploy in the dual-stage mode. Otherwise, the airbag deploys in either single or dual-stage mode based on the severity of the collision and seat belt use.

The TL and TL Type-S also feature adjustable rear outboard head restraints, and standard side curtain airbags. These technologies, and the use of high-tensile steel in critical areas and computer-modeled crush zones, help to ensure a high level of passenger protection. The TL passed the toughest government safety tests with a 5-star frontal rating in addition to achieving a "GOOD" rating in all categories evaluated during the IIHS frontal offset collision. The TL safety equation even extends to pedestrians with structural elements designed to reduce the likelihood of serious injury in a collision.

Powertrain

Two engines are available for the 2007 TL. Under the hood of the TL is an all-aluminum 3.2-liter V-6 with 24 valves and Acura's VTEC(R) - Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control system. It delivers 258 horsepower and 233 lb-ft of torque.

The TL Type-S is powered by a modified version of the 3.5-liter VTEC V-6 found in the Acura RL. With more displacement than the TL engine and a high-flow exhaust system, it boasts 286 horsepower and 256 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines benefit from Acura's groundbreaking VTEC system. This patented technology provides an exceptionally flat torque curve, enhancing high-rpm horsepower without sacrificing low-end torque. The result is an engine with excellent responsiveness at all engine speeds.

The standard transmission in the TL and TL Type-S is an all-new electronically controlled 5-speed automatic. Developed from the RL's 5-speed automatic, this transmission has more torque capacity that the one it replaces, but more compact. It also features Acura's Sequential SportShift system. Inspired by Formula One(R) racecars, Sequential SportShift gives the driver the flexibility of a self-shifting automatic or the control of a manual. The system has been reprogrammed this year for smoother operation and enhanced gear holding capabilities. In addition, the TL Type-S "rev matches" during manually selected downshifts.

Available on Type-S models is a smooth-shifting 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission. Similar to the manual transmission on the 2006 TL, it features a re-designed bellhousing and improved clutch feel for smoother, more linear engagement.

With Acura's unwavering commitment to the environment, both TL engines meet strict CARB LEV-II ULEV standards. In addition, cold-start emissions are improved thanks to the close-coupled catalytic converter system and under-floor catalyst.

Acura RDX

Turbocharged Acura RDX Debuts At 2006 New York Auto Show

The all-new 2007 Acura RDX Entry Premium SUV, made its production debut at the New York Auto Show. RDX combines Acura's first-ever turbocharged engine with the breakthrough Super Handling All-Wheel Drive(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)), for sports sedan-like handling in a SUV package.

"The all-new RDX is an exciting entry to the Acura light truck lineup for 2007," said John Mendel, senior vice president, auto operations, "The RDX's innovative powertrain coupled with SH-AWD provides this SUV with excellent fuel economy and outstanding performance."

The RDX is aimed at high-energy urbanites that spend the work week in the confines of the city, and then decompress on the weekends by getting away from it all. Regardless of where they go, these drivers expect the ultimate in responsiveness, control and adaptability.

Built on a new global light truck platform, the RDX concept was first designed in California and then developed in Japan. Besides featuring precedent-setting engineering features including Acura's first turbocharged and intercooled engine and the first adaptation of a SH-AWD(TM) system to an SUV, the RDX also offers Acura's first standard 18-inch wheels and tires.

True to form for Acura, the RDX incorporates a class-leading array of sophisticated electronic technologies that are seamlessly integrated to keep its passengers informed, entertained and in touch. The RDX also introduces new safety technologies based on the fundamentals of Acura's "Safety Through Innovation" initiative.

As Acura's first Entry Premium SUV, the RDX was the focal point of the development of a special powertrain that would blend 4-cylinder efficiency and 6-cylinder power. The ideal solution came in the form of an innovative new variable flow turbo (VFT) that delivers an unusually broad powerband with little or no lag in throttle response. The RDX is equipped with an all-new 2.3-liter DOHC 16-valve in-line four-cylinder engine with i-VTEC valve control that combines Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) with Variable Timing Control (VTC). With the variable flow turbo working in concert with i-VTEC, the RDX delivers strong power and torque, excellent fuel economy and very low emissions.

Rated output for the RDX engine is 240 horsepower SAE net* at 6000 rpm. In terms of torque, the RDX has the highest output of any engine in the Acura lineup, with 260 lbs.-ft. of torque SAE net* at 4500 rpm. The RDX is expected to return an EPA-estimated 19/24** City/Highway mileage, while meeting strict CARB LEV-2 ULEV and EPA Tier-2 Bin-5 emissions standards.

A 5-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift is standard. The electronically controlled drive-by-wire throttle and transmission work together to execute shifts, resulting in exceptionally quick and smooth gear changes. The transmission can function as a conventional automatic transmission or, at the driver's option, can be shifted manually via steering-wheel-mounted paddles.

SH-AWD(TM) is standard in the RDX to maximize available traction while improving handling balance and responsiveness. SH-AWD(TM) is Acura's patented all-wheel drive system that distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear axles but also between the left and right rear wheels. The system's direct yaw control helps reduce understeer to enhance steering accuracy and add to total cornering power.

Responsive handling is further aided by fully independent front and rear suspensions. The MacPherson strut front and trailing arm-type multilink rear systems are tuned for compliant control, and assisted with front and rear anti-roll bars for flatter cornering. Standard Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA(R)) with traction control further enhances controllability and grip.

The RDX exterior styling further emphasizes the SUV's sporty athleticism. It has a taut, muscular presence with standard 18-inch wheels and tires that work together with large wheel arches, aggressively raked body sides, a steeply raked windscreen and a short rear overhang. A unique rear hatch, finished with a replaceable panel to reduce the cost of accident repair, allows the rear of the body to smoothly transition to the rear bumper. This permits a more custom look and also eases the act of loading and unloading cargo.

Inside the RDX, the front-seats feature a high "eye point" that provides a confident field of view. The 3-passenger rear seat has a 60/40 split-folding capability and, when folded flat, significantly expands the load area and increases the cargo volume to 60.6 cubic feet of storage. There are multiple interior storage compartments positioned throughout the interior, including a large (and lockable) dual-level center console located conveniently between the front seats that can securely accommodate a briefcase.

The RDX features an array of electronic features that set it apart from the competition. These include a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a Multi-Information Display (MID), and LED backlit gauges with progressive illumination. Also standard is an impressive 360-watt 7-speaker Acura Premium Sound System with a multi-format 6-disc changer, AM/FM tuner, XM(R) Satellite Radio, and the convenience of an MP3/auxiliary input jack for easily connecting audio devices such as an iPod.

Just one optional package is offered on the RDX. The Technology Package heightens the RDX's appeal to technology-savvy customers with a range of advanced features. The centerpiece is a 10-speaker Acura/ELS Surround(TM) Premium Sound System designed by legendary recording engineer Elliott Scheiner. When playing DVD-Audio discs (DVD-A), this advanced 410-watt system delivers eight discreet audio channels (instead of the usual two) to create an uncannily accurate listening experience. With its multi-format 6-disc DVD-A changer, AM/FM tuner and XM(R) Satellite Radio, the system is as versatile as it is powerful.

The Technology Package also includes several information and communications such as HandsFreeLink(TM) and the Acura Navigation system. HandFreeLink is a wireless telephone interface that is designed to work with many Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones (sold separately). In addition, the AcuraLink(TM) Satellite Communication System with Real Time Traffic allows for 2-way communication between Acura and the vehicle, providing customers with the latest information specific to their vehicle.

The Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition(TM) can display up-to-the-minute traffic information including flow, accidents, construction and weather conditions on freeways in 31 major metro areas (where available). When the transmission is placed in reverse, the Navigation screen displays the image from a rearview camera to make parking easier. In addition, the AcuraLink(TM) Satellite Communication System with Real Time Traffic allows for 2-way communication between Acura and the vehicle, providing customers with the latest information specific to their vehicle.

Technological leadership also extends to safety engineering. The RDX's Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE(TM)) body structure substantially contributes to passenger safety. ACE(TM) distributes collision loads through the body structure, leaving the passenger cabin more intact for improved occupant protection. Specially designed frame members make the RDX more compatible with smaller vehicles in the event of a vehicle-to-vehicle frontal collision. Likewise, a specially engineered hood and other components help reduce the chances of pedestrian injury in the event of a collision with the vehicle.

Inside the RDX is a full complement of passive safety features. Key technologies include the latest generation of dual-stage, dual-threshold airbags for the driver and front passenger, plus side airbags for the driver and front passenger and side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor for all outboard occupants. Child-seat mounting systems, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), allow the quick and secure installation of a child seats.

The RDX will be assembled in Marysville, Ohio, on the same line as the Acura TL sedan. It is the first Acura light truck to come from the facility.

Like all Acura models, the 2007 RDX is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 6-year/70,000 miles powertrain limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.

Acura MDX

2007 Acura MDX

The original Acura(R) MDX(R), produced from 2001 to 2006 model years, broke new ground in the emerging luxury SUV segment. Now, the all-new 2007 MDX takes its predecessor's best qualities and radically expands them, pushing performance and sophistication in the luxury SUV segment to new levels. Benchmarked against some of the best performance SUVs in the world and tuned on the Nurburgring racetrack in Germany, the new MDX clearly establishes itself as a driver's SUV. Outfitted with Acura's tenacious Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)) system and an available sport package with Active Damper System, the MDX yields a combination of handling and comfort that is truly on the cutting edge.

The 2007 MDX is equally daring in its styling and thorough in its safety and environmental responsibilities. Included as standard equipment is the largest array of passive safety features in Acura history. The MDX's class-leading 300-hp VTEC(TM) V-6 makes as much power as some competitive V-8s, yet delivers ultra-low emissions and excellent fuel economy. Inside the 7-passenger interior, the MDX offers thoughtful luxury and an unmatched range of advanced available technologies, including the Acura Navigation System and AcuraLink(TM) Satellite Communication System with real-time traffic and a spectacular 10-speaker Acura/ELS Surround(TM) Premium Sound System.

Altogether, the all-new 2007 MDX embodies Acura's commitment to performance, luxury, quality and style, together with parent company Honda's global mandate for safety and environmental care. The 2007 MDX is the sixth Acura project to be designed and engineered in the United States, including the 1997 CL, 1999 TL, 2001 CL, 2001 MDX, and 2004 TL, and several award-winning Honda products.

ENGINE & POWERTRAIN

With a displacement of 3.7 liters, the 2007 MDX features Acura's largest and most powerful V-6 engine. Developing 300 horsepower and 275 lbs.-ft. of torque, the MDX's output is competitive with many V-8 engines - without the fuel-economy penalty that some V-8 engines suffer. To widen the powerband and improve emissions and fuel economy the engine has VTEC(R) (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control), a dual-stage intake manifold, and an electronic Drive-by-Wire Throttle System(TM). EPA estimated mileage of 17/22 mpg (City/Highway) and a large 21-gallon fuel capacity mean the MDX also has a greater cruising range. The MDX is also designed to meet the latest CARB-Certified LEV-2 ULEV emissions certification.

A 5-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift is designed to satisfy the most performance-oriented drivers. Tuned on the challenging Nurburgring circuit in Germany, the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)) system likewise provides handling precision that sets a new benchmark for SUVs. SH-AWD(TM) "actively" varies the torque distribution between front and rear axles - then between the left and right rear wheels - to provide the maximum grip under all driving circumstances. Operating seamlessly and automatically, SH-AWD(TM) overdrives the outside rear wheel up to 1.7% faster than the front wheels to help the vehicle "rotate" around a corner.

BODY & CHASSIS

The 2007 MDX sets new standards for Acura from styling, engineering, handling and safety standpoints. Its dramatic styling utilizes large surface areas, sweeping curves and decisive angles. Longer, wider and lower (and with a longer wheelbase) than the original MDX, the new dimensions create a more athletic appearance.

The 2007 MDX maintains the same weight as the 2006 MDX, proof of the hard work that engineers invested to keep mass out of the new vehicle in spite of added feature content. Contributing to this is widespread use of high-strength steel, as well as aluminum and magnesium. In addition, the Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE(TM)) unit body structure is intended to bring new levels of front crash safety to the MDX.

Befitting its position as Acura's flagship SUV, the MDX is equipped with High-Intensity Discharge (HID) low-beam headlights, a dramatic array of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) in the tail lamps and center high-mounted stoplight, and exterior mirror-mounted turn signals. The new grille also reflects a fresh look for the MDX. Careful aerodynamic tailoring reduces drag noise and high speed dynamic stability.

The 2007 MDX has an all-new chassis to complement its 300-horsepower VTEC(R) V-6 engine and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)). Engineers targeted the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne when developing the MDX chassis, and then tested and refined it at the Nurburgring circuit. The Active Damper System, available in the Sport Package, has proprietary fully active dampers that adjust to road conditions on a real-time basis - in less than five milliseconds (0.005 sec.). The MDX is also at home off-road, where its excellent engine torque, responsive suspension, and generous ground clearance enable it to cross-step through rough terrain with aplomb.

For family recreation, the new MDX tows as well as it goes. With its 5000-pound towing rating, standard trailer pre-wiring, high-capacity radiator with twin cooling fans, ATF cooler and Trailer Stability Assist, the MDX needs only a dealer-installed hitch and wiring to tow a substantial trailer.

INTERIOR

Acura reinvented the MDX's luxurious interior for 2007 while adding to its appeal as a "Driver's SUV." The cockpit environment is focused on the driver, and features a host of technologies to make driving simultaneously more rewarding and relaxing. The interior styling and functionality perfectly coexist with a driver's cockpit that features a 10-way power seat including power-adjustable lumbar support for the driver, electronic tilt and telescoping steering column, a 2-position custom memory system, and a Multi-Information Display (MID) that allows access to multiple electronic functions.

The interior design is as dynamic and contemporary as the exterior, with a "4+3 seating" concept that luxuriously hosts four passengers in the first and second row seats, while also offering comfortable accommodations for three additional passengers (one in the second row and two in the third row). The front passenger enjoys an 8-way power seat of their own, while everyone on board will appreciate the MDX's Tri-Zone automatic climate control system and new 253-watt, 8-speaker Acura Premium Sound System with multi-format 6-disc in-dash CD, MP3, WMA changer, AM/FM tuner, and XM(R) Satellite Radio. An auxiliary jack for personal audio devices is also included. Standard convenience features include HomeLink(R), Smart Maintenance, and adaptive and flexible cargo space with six configurations. Included in the available Entertainment Package is a power tailgate, the first on an Acura SUV.

SAFETY

A new Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE(TM)) unit body structure, plus several new passive-safety technologies, help bring the 2007 MDX to the next level of safety. ACE(TM) more evenly distributes collision forces and helps maintain the integrity of the passenger cabin in the event of a severe frontal collision. The MDX is also less intrusive to smaller vehicles in a head-on collision thanks to a special frame member located below the front bumper that's designed to engage the front bumper of smaller vehicles. The 2007 MDX meets two newly upgraded federal safety regulations, FMVSS 208 and FMVSS 301, which will begin to be required for the 2007 model year.

Also new are active head restraints and dual-stage knee bolsters for the driver and front passenger. The driver and front passenger are protected by dual-stage, dual-threshold airbag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and side airbags with front passenger Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS). Occupants in all three rows of outboard seats are protected by side curtain airbags. A rollover sensor adds a further level of protection.

The 2007 Acura MDX continues its "Safety Through Innovation" with pedestrian protection features such as a deformable aluminum hood and hood hinges, and breakaway windshield-wiper pivots.
